Summary
The application required inspecting for the presence/absence of screws
in an automotive side mirror. Shadows created by the LED array on
the allen head screws show up as a dark crater in the center of the
screw head. Illumination was critical in this application. The light
source had to be in a precise location to avoid shadows from studs
etc. A simple FeatureCount SoftSensor was used to determine the presence
of screw. The pass or fail criteria depended on the size of a dark
feature.
