Part
Description:Barcode
on metal spray can.
Industry:Packaging
Inspection Type:Orientation
Summary
The object of this inspection is to detect the presence and orientation
of a barcode on the side of spray cans. The cans are to be inspected
while traveling down a conveyor. The label is white on a red background.
Fluorescent light has high blue content and proved to be ideal to
obtain high contrast between white and red color. A find rectangle
fudicial SoftSensor was used to track the barcode area. The orientation
of the bar code with respect to the white rectangle was nspected
using horizontal and vertical line - FeatureCount SoftSensors. The
FeatureCount line SoftSensors would cross either perpendicular or
parallel to the barcode lines depending on the barcode's orientation.
A good sample with vertically oriented barcode will be seen by the
Horizontal Line Feature Count as having multiple features (greater
than 10) while the vertical line FeatureCount will show only a few
features (5 during testing). Thus, a passing Horizontal Line Feature
Count and a failing vertical line FeatureCount will indicate a good
barcode positioning. Since the rotational orientation of the can
cannot be regulated, a four sensor head arrangement with each sensor
head covering a 90 deg FOV would be necessary to ensure total inspection.
