PC Based Air Conditioner Test Laboratory

Goal :

This project's goal is to find out the chracteristics of the Air Handling Units ( A.H.U.'s ) of varius types and sizes which are produced by H.S.K. . And to construct a labaratory to measure the airflow of the AHU's up to 30,000 m3/h according to AMCA/ASHRAE standarts so, to construct an A.H.U. suitable to international standarts.

 

Design and Technology:

Laboratory's test tunnel with the dimensions of 2700x6000x2700 milimeters was constructed by HSK according to the AMCA / ASHRAE standarts. The standart studies with the HSK responsibles for determining the hardware and software configuration it was clear that the calculations were complex and it wad decided to developed the system as PC Based and the software with the ability to do all test and reporting operations.

The mesurements can be gathered in 4 groups:

1- Atmospheric Measurements
" Temperature
" Pressure
" Humidity

2- The measurements on the AHU :
" Input and Output air temperatures
" Input and Output water temperature
" The difference pressures betweeen Input-Output and modules

3- The measurements on the Test Tunnel :
" Test pressure
" Nozzle front pressure
" Nozzle front temperature
" Nozzle difference pressure

4- Adjustable output system measurement :
" ( Devir ) sayısı
Results :

" Atmospheric (yaş) termometer temperature
" Atmospheric air density
" (devir) number of the adjustable output system
" The airflow of AHU

Sensortechnics' special production pressure sensors were used for the pressure measurement in the Pascal ( Pa ) level and for humidity , temperature measurements, Jumo Company's sensors and J type stick termocouples were used. AHU motor's ( devir )
Number is measured with Keyence's photocell.

To drive the adjustable output system's 30KW asynchronous motor Danfoss' inverter were used. The smooth ( yolverici ) which drives the AHU motor and other panel meterials are the products of Telemecanique company.

To mantain easy usage in the field, a piano type panel of Tempa Panel company's was used. On the bottom side of panel there is power and control systems, on the upper side of the Panel there is a Beckhoff industrial computer , Fieldpoint RTU data acquisition modules, measurement instruments like voltmeter and ampermeter , varius lights and switche. The Fieldpoint RTU system and LabVIEW programming languageare National Instrument's products.

solution:

SOLUTION : After the A.H.U. ,which is going to be tested, is connected to the input of the test tunnel and the sensor are mounted, the operator starts the AHU and adjustable output system by entering the aimed test pressure to the system software. AHU rotates with constant ( devir ) number so the output pressure is constant. Adjustable pressure system acts like the climatized enviroment and loads the AHU. The mathemetical information and formules as a result of concentrated teorical researches were applied to the system software. The automation routines explained with the results of these datas, adjusts the output system automatically and calculates the airflow.

An alarm value was defined for every value that is being measured. Operator can observe the alarm conditions and measurement results with numerical indicators and with graphics and can interfere the system when it is needed. A report in xls format is being generated for every tested AHU.

Result :

This AHU test laboratory , which was developed as the result of intensive R&D work, is the first laboratory in its field in Turkey. With this laboratory the company was sure to use their AHU's on the installation. Tens of thousands dollars of engineering price were saved from going to the foreing countries.
